The brief

Megumi is Migle’s kitchen: restaurant-trained, cooking from home in Salford, open for pick-up Thursday to Sunday. Everything ran through Instagram, so customers saw the food and then had to piece together the menu, the platter sizes and the pick-up days from posts and messages.

She needed a site that felt as personal as her food and made ordering effortless, without turning a home kitchen into a faceless shop.

The approach

I built the whole site from her own brand: the olive-mustard colour, the seigaiha wave pattern, and her black cat with its headband and katana, redrawn as a crisp vector so it could move on screen. It speaks in her voice, in the first person, the way she talks to her customers.

Then I made ordering the easiest part. Pick a platter, choose your rolls, and the site writes the Instagram message for you. She still takes every order herself; she just no longer has to explain the menu in every conversation.

The craft, in detail

  • 01Her brand, everywhere. Palette, pattern and cat carried through every section, so it feels like her kitchen rather than a template.
  • 02An illustrated menu. Each of the fourteen rolls illustrated from its real fillings, next to photos of her actual food.
  • 03Ordering without a checkout. A platter builder that turns choices into a ready-to-send Instagram message, because that is how she already works.
  • 04Pick-up days she controls. A private page where she updates her availability herself, whenever she needs to.
  • 05Light on a phone. Hand-coded, with no page builder, so it loads quickly for customers arriving from Instagram.

Her customers arrive from Instagram, on their phones, so every screen was designed for the phone first.
